Job Description:
General Summary/Overview:The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist
performs ultrasound examinations for the cerebral, peripheral, and
abdominal vessels to assist the physician in the diagnosis of
disorders affecting circulation.Principle Duties and
Responsibilities:Perform ultrasonic diagnostic procedures as
directed by physicians.Explain procedures to assure cooperation and
optimum test results.Conduct scanning procedures using ultrasound
equipment.Record and maintain test data and prepare preliminary
interpretations of test results.Maintain ultrasound
equipment.Monitor ultrasound supplies.Maintain clean work
area.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Education/Experience Requirements:High School diploma or
GED.Successful completion of the national exam given by the
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). A
minimum of 1-3 years of experience as an ultrasound
technician.Licensure/Certification Requirements:Current
registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through
the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical
Sonographers.Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:Knowledge of
cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to pinpoint area of
imaging.Knowledge of ultrasound equipment and common safety hazards
and precautions.Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and
procedures in cardiology.Skill in operating ultrasound
equipment.Skill in taking vital signs.Skill in recording results
and maintaining records.The ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with patients, medical providers
and peers.The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency
situations.The ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and
procedures.Excellent communication and customer service
skills.Physical Demands:Requires full range of body motion.
Requires standing and walking. Occasionally lifting and carrying
things weighing up to 20 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing
to normal range. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or
bodily fluids. Manual dexterity using a computer keyboard.Working
