Job Description:

POSITION: Full-Time Faculty Position: Assistant Professor: Communication/Theater; Department of English (Division of Liberal Arts); Tenure track; MCCC/MTA Unit Position; Position Contingent on Budget Resources Being Available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach theater, acting, public speaking, and interpersonal communication courses primarily, also occasional dramatic literature courses.
  • Serve as manager of theater facility, produce and direct student shows, develop a strong presence for theater activities at NECC.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and transfer institutions to strengthen and grow theater programming, opportunities, and connections for NECC students.
  • Participate in curriculum and course development for the creation of a new theater pathway in the Liberal Arts degree program and recruit and support students in the program.
  • Participate in college service including grants development, program review and assessment, student extracurricular activities, and committee work.
  • Academically advise students.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Liberal Arts.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Theater, Communication, or relevant discipline required.
  • Must have significant background in producing, directing, and promoting student theatrical productions at the college level.
  • Must have at least two years of teaching experience at the college level, with a demonstrated sensitivity for teaching academically diverse students, evidence of excellent teaching, and commitment to equitable teaching practices.
  • Ability to teach within, and contribute positively to multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and the ability to integrate appropriate technology into teaching strategies required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional theater experience, online teaching experience.
  • Bilingual or Bi-cultural (English/Spanish).
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse, urban population in a Hispanic-Serving Institution.


Additional Information:

SALARY:

  • Anticipated starting salary range is $48,811.00-$64,000.00 per academic year; complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits.
  • Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience. Transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
