Description: This position is in a cardiac medical unit. The unit
provides cardiac step-down care from critical care settings. It
includes responsibilities for medical/surgical telemetry and
overflow for stroke patients. Specialized skills are required for
chest pain rule out, congestive heart failure, and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease management. Employees will also
manage chest tubes, high-flow oxygen, Bi-PAP, thoracentesis,
peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomies, pacemakers, cardiac
catheterization, and CIWA protocols. The unit consists of 20 beds
with a patient ratio of 5:1. Staff includes four RNs, a Clinical
Nurse Coordinator, two Nursing Assistants, and a Unit Clerk. Key
equipment utilized includes IV pumps, Sara Steady lifts, high-flow
oxygen devices, Bi-PAP machines, and Kangaroo pumps. Documentation
is performed using Meditech Expanse. The schedule typically
involves three 12-hour shifts with every other weekend or a
four-week shift pattern. The unit promotes bedside shift rounds and
effective handoff communication. This facility is recognized as a
STEMI hospital and a stroke center with Level II trauma
capabilities. Advanced skills such as thoracentesis, peritoneal
dialysis, tracheostomy care, pacemaker management, and CIWA
assessments are performed regularly. Professional attire is
